The Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka

What country seems the most “exotic” to you? Typically, it’s the one that represents the most intrigue and mystery.

For us, Sri Lanka was right there at the top of the “exotic” list, and therefore near the top of our bucket list as well.

As mentioned in the podcast, our trip started off with the most unique, peacock-themed flight attendants…on Sri Lankan Airlines.

Fly Sri Lankan. You won’t be sari…but they will.

After landing in the capital, Colombo, we had a chance to relax at the famous Galle Face Hotel…

Chillin’ on the patio.

…before the grand festival next door caught our attention.  As usual on this trip, 4-month-old Sarah got plenty of attention as well.  Like in most countries of the world, Sri Lankans are generally warm, friendly people so it was fun and exciting to meet new friends.

As usual, Sarah was a rock star.

The food in Colombo was not unlike what you’d find in India, especially southern India.  There’s more coconut milk than yogurt, the spices are a bit different and you’ll find more seafood selections than you will in much of India given the proximity of the Indian Ocean.

Crabs done differently.

The real adventure started when we caught the Sri Lankan Air Taxi for the town of Kandy.  Finding the airport was an adventure unto itself.

The smallest airport we'd ever flown from.

Here’s the video of the landing, as promised in the show:

In Kandy, we visited the Amazing Temple Of The Sacred Tooth Relic, which is a active–and very busy–Buddhist temple.  One of Gautama’s teeth is said to be enshrined there, valuable not only because of it’s intrinsic significance to the faith, but also because it is said that whoever has the tooth will rule the country.

A typically busy day at The Temple Of The Tooth Relic.
