Soviet monument under construction in Minsk, Belarus

Belarus is best known for being in the Opening Ceremonies parade at the Olympics. Actually, that’s probably not true.

Nevertheless, it’s the most Soviet country left in Eastern Europe and that alone makes it incredibly interesting to visit. It’s also HARD to get a visa for, which is part of the reason why only 300 U.S. citizens go there every year. Well, that and not a lot of people even know it’s there, let alone plan a visit.

So download your Cyrillic app and discover the mysterious city of Minsk. Take in the hammers, the sickles, the giant murals of determined workers and communist-era hotels.

Warning: we say the word “Soviet” about 200 times in this podcast, I think.
